This summer was one of the greatest research adventures I could have hoped to go on. I’ve spent three years studying Mandarin Chinese at Michigan, and I just completed my language minor during the spring, so I was looking for a chance to put it to good use. Also, last summer I had an REU in Woods Hole, MA working in a lab, which was great, but I was looking for a different sort of research experience doing work in the field. AAMU’s China REU fit the bill for both of those criteria, and soon I was in the final round talking to my potential mentor, Kevin Messenger. My Chinese language education and background catching snakes and frogs in northern Michigan must have convinced him I was the right choice, because at the end of May I was packing my bags for my first trip to China.

I made a slideshow with photos and videos from my trip to China. You can follow the link to YouTube below.
